Homecoming Week Events Scheduled Posted on September 26th, 2011 by

Gustavus Adolphus College will celebrate its Homecoming Weekend Friday, Sept. 30 – Sunday, Oct. 2, as well as the official kickoff of its Sesquicentennial celebration. Along with numerous alumni gatherings and Sesquicentennial related events, there are several events geared toward current Gustavus students.

Medallion Hunt

The 2011 Homecoming medallion hunt will begin at 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26 when the first clue is revealed in the C. Charles Jackson Campus Center. The prize for finding the medallion is a Gustavus to-go cold cup.

Homecoming Kickoff and Window Painting

Student organizations will kickoff 2011 Homecoming festivities with the annual window painting contest in the Evelyn Young Dining Room. Participating organizations will compete for a first prize of $500.

Homecoming Parade

The annual Homecoming Parade will take place at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30. Unlike in past years, this year’s parade will take place through the middle of campus rather than on Ring Road. The parade will start at Norelius Hall, proceed up Eckman Mall, go underneath the skyway that connects the O.J. Johnson Student Union and C. Charles Jackson Campus Center, and finish near Lund Center. Student organizations can sign up to participate in the parade and compete for a first place prize of $500.

Pep Fest

Following the parade, there will be a pep fest held at 6 p.m. in the alumni tent set up behind Lund Center and adjacent to Hollingsworth Field. Come support your fall athletic teams and the 2011 Homecoming Court. Hot 96 of Mankato will emcee the event, which will include music, games, and free give-aways.

Cookout, Bonfire & Fireworks

A cookout and bonfire will take place on the intramural softball fields beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30. Free food will be provided by Famous Dave’s, with music provided by Hot 96 of Mankato. Fireworks will cap the night at 9:30 p.m.

Athletic Events

The Gustavus football team will host Concordia College at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. The women’s soccer team will host Carleton College starting at Noon.

Concert

The 2011 Homecoming Concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 in the alumni tent behind Lund Center and adjacent to Hollingsworth Field. Tyrone Wells will open for featured artist Eric Hutchinson. Tickets are free for Gustavus students and alumni.

Homecoming Celebration Worship

Homecoming Weekend will conclude with a 10:30 a.m. worship service in Christ Chapel. An Alumni Choir of more than 150 voices will be present.
