The artwork of 17 Gustavus studio art majors will be featured at the Hillstrom Museum of Art beginning May 1
The Hillstrom Museum of Art at Gustavus Adolphus College will present Atypical 9 to 5: Senior Exhibition, an exhibition featuring the work of 17 studio art majors at the College. The show will be on display from Saturday, May 1 through Sunday, May 30 with an opening reception scheduled for 4-6 p.m. May 1.
The exhibition is a culminating event in the studio art major’s curriculum and a required component of the major. On display are works by Jamie Dufek, Robert Dunn, Ross Elenkiwich, Christopher Elveru, Kali Griggs, Tory Herman, Michael Johnson, Jonathan Kamrath, Kristina Kelly, Alex Messenger, Kaitlyn O’Bryan, Rachel Pedersen, Caitlin Peterson, Aaron Regla Breton, Amanda Skarphol, Katie Umenthum, and Kate Wiedman.
The works on display were created using a variety of different materials, including traditional media such as painting on canvas, watercolor on paper, charcoal on maps, prints, glazed stoneware, bronze, photography, and video. There are also mixed media pieces that incorporate diverse objects such as an egg roll wrapper, a fortune cooking fortune, aspirin, and ceramic birds adjacent to a tree drawn in charcoal.
The exhibition was selected from a group of submissions by each artist, and the jury process was carried out by faculty members from the Department of Art and Art History.
The Hillstrom Museum of Art is located on the lower level of the College’s C. Charles Jackson Campus Center. Regular museum hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and 1 to 5 p.m. on weekends. The exhibition and opening reception are free and open to the public.
