Gustavus to Celebrate its Authors

Gustavus Adolphus College will hold its annual Gustavus Author Tea at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, April 30 in the Courtyard Café, located on the lower level of the C. Charles Jackson Campus Center.

Johnson-Groh Receives Fulbright Award

Cindy Johnson-Groh, professor of biology and environmental studies as well as executive director of the Linnaeus Arboretum at Gustavus Adolphus College, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture and conduct research in Tanzania during the 2009-10 academic year.

Steve Wilkinson Announces Retirement

Steve Wilkinson, the head men's tennis coach at Gustavus Adolphus College for the past 39 years and the winningest coach in men's tennis collegiate history with 923 victories, has announced that he will retire from coaching at the end of the current school year.

Traditional Pow-Wow Scheduled

Gustavus Adolphus College and Minnesota State University, Mankato will co-sponsor their second annual traditional pow-wow April 24-25 at Gustavus's Swanson Tennis Center.

Linnaeus Symposium Set for April 22

The 2009 Linnaeus Symposium at Gustavus Adolphus College will take place Wednesday, April 22, which happens to be Earth Day. This year's symposium is titled "Global Trees: Releaf — Relief," and will give attendees the opportunity to learn from and dialogue with some of the nation's well known tree experts.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Lecture Set for April 21

The annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Lecture at Gustavus Adolphus College will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 21. Dr. Harry M. Williams, the Laird Bell Professor of History at Carleton College is this year's invited lecturer.

Darfur Week to Raise Genocide Awareness

Gustavus Adolphus College will host a series of events and activities during the week of Monday, April 20 to raise awareness of genocide. The week is titled "Darfur Week: Protect, Prevent, Prosecute, Remember."

MPR to Broadcast Tribute to Bill Holm

Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) will broadcast a tribute to renowned poet, essayist, and Gustavus alumnus Bill Holm on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19. Holm passed away on Feb. 25 in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Gustavus to Host State High School Speech Tournament

Gustavus Adolphus College will host the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) state speech tournament April 17-18. The Class AA tournament will take place Friday, April 17, while the the Class A tournament will take place Saturday, April 18.

Forensics Team Ranked 18th in the Nation

For the third consecutive year, the Gustavus Adolphus College forensics team earned a top 20 national ranking at the 32nd annual American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament (AFA-NIET) April 4-6 on the campus of the University of Akron.
