Traditional Pow-Wow Scheduled Posted on April 18th, 2009 by

Gustavus Adolphus College and Minnesota State University, Mankato will co-sponsor their second annual traditional pow-wow April 24-25 at Gustavus’s Swanson Tennis Center.

This celebration of American Indian culture will feature Native American dancing, drumming, singing, and various vendors. The event will kick-off with a grand entry at 7 p.m. Friday, April 24. The event will resume at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, April 25.

Dave Larsen, a member of the Lower Sioux Indian Community, which is part of the Mdewakanton Band of Dakota, will host the pow-wow as the event’s emcee. Larsen’s wife Valerie, a member of the Anishinabe (Ojibwe) Nation, will serve as head female dancer. Jonathan Lucia, a noted Dakota dancer, will also be present. Anpetu Duta, translated as “Red Day,” will serve as the host drum.
