“Eat Right, Feel Good, Look Great” Speaker March 3
Nutritionist Deanna Latson will speak at Gustavus on Thursday, March 3 at 6:30 p.m. in Alumni Hall, located in the O.J. Johnson Student Union. This nationally known presenter will speak about what foods people can eat to stay fit, be energized, and perform well academically and athletically. The lecture is free and open to all.
Distinguished Archaeologist Lecture March 4
Professor Terry L. Hunt will visit Gustavus March 3-4, 2011 as a Sigma Xi guest lecturer. Hunt, who has conducted archaeological field research in the Pacific Islands for more than 30 years, will present two lectures during his time on campus. Both lectures are free and open to the public.
Swimming and Diving Wins MIAC Title
The Gustavus women’s swimming and diving team won the 2011 MIAC Swimming and Diving Championships with a 3-day total of 792 points, including scoring 287 points in day 3 of competition. It is Gustavus’s 4th MIAC Championship in 5 years.

Canceled: Leibundguth Flute Recital
Due to inclement weather Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, the flute recital scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall at Gustavus Adolphus College. The recital was to feature Adjunct Professor of Music Barbara Leibundguth presenting a faculty recital on the flute, Dedicated to French School. The event will be rescheduled for a later date, which will be announced when determined.
Weekend Fine Arts Events
A weekend of Fine Arts events is occurring on campus this weekend, Feb. 19-20. They include a guest vocalist and pianist performance, violin and flute recitals, and a new exhibition on origami. All these events are free and open to the public.
Changing Food World Lecture March 2
Author and professor Psyche Williams-Forson will visit Gustavus on Wednesday, March 2, 2011. Her lecture, titled "Bet Your Bottom Dollar: Expanding the Concept of Alternatives in a Changing Food World, is part of Gustavus's Global Insight 2010-2011 program on food and will be at 7 p.m. in F.W. Olin Hall, room 103. The lecture will discuss dollar stores, and other similar “value markets,” as a way to broaden the discussion of concepts like “sustainability” and “food access.”
VIDEO: A Sustainable Advantage
Gustavus is a place that truly wants to make a difference in the world. One way the institution and its community members do that is in the area of food and sustainability. Online there's a new, unsolicited video story featuring Gustavus Adolphus College's sustainability efforts in the food/dining area, which was done by the St. Paul-based non-profit organization Minnesota 2020.
Canceled: Professor and Author Thomas Kasulis to Visit Feb. 21-22
Due to the inclement weather, this event's canceled: Author and Professor Thomas Kasulis will visit Gustavus Feb. 21-22 to engage in conversation about the meaning of a liberal arts education. He will give a public lecture, titled “From the Love of Wisdom to the Wisdom of Love: Rethinking Thinking,” Monday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. in Old Main, Room 05.
