The award-winning a cappella sensation Home Free will perform at Gustavus Adolphus College’s Jussi Björling Recital Hall Saturday, Nov. 6. This Artist Series performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
Conceived in Mankato, the ensemble features Mankato natives and Gustavus alumni, Chris and Adam Rupp along with Mankatoan Matt Atwood. The group features a distinctive combination of comedy and music featuring five male vocalists with extensive theatrical and musical training. With a genre of music that covers an expansive mix of pop, jazz, classical, and country, all songs are performed with only the human voice and microphones, resulting in a truly unique and incredible sound.
With four recordings on the market (From the Top, Kickin’ It Old School, and two Christmas albums) and an extensive touring and performance schedule, Home Free is quickly gaining the attention of the music public tuned in to the sound of five a capella voices. The combined talents of Rob Lundquist, Chris Rupp, Matt Atwood, Troy Horne and Adam Rupp create a warm and inviting tone and quality that masks the difficulty of “making it all come together.”
Home Free recently took first place in the Harmony Sweepstakes Chicago Regional and has performed for a diverse and extensive clientele, ranging from the Minnesota Vikings to Fortune 500 companies, Celebrity and Norwegian Cruise Lines, Allied Concert touring services, the Dutton Family from America’s Got Talent and many more. In addition to touring and performing, the group devotes time to educating and encouraging music in the public schools through innovative workshops and concert fundraising. To date, its programs have already raised tens of thousands of dollars for schools in Minnesota through Music in Our Schools, a creation of Matt Atwood.
Tickets are available online at gustavustickets.com or at the door the night of the event. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students, senior citizens, and Gustavus employees.
