The 21 students and two faculty members from Gustavus Adolphus College that were stranded for four days near Machu Picchu in Peru due to extreme flooding, returned to Minnesota around noon on Saturday, Jan. 30.
Family, friends, and College officials were present at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to welcome the group home. The group was on a January Interim off-campus study course titled, “Education, Healthcare, and Poverty in Peru.”
Flooding near Machu Picchu stranded approximately 2,500 tourists and forced the Peruvian government to airlift tourists out of the area by helicopter.
