Day at the Capitol Scheduled for March 19

On Thursday, March 19, Gustavus Adolphus College students and financial aid supporters will travel to St. Paul to meet with state legislators to show continued support and appreciation for the Minnesota State Grant Program.

Gustavus to Host TEDx Event on April 18

The Center for Servant Leadership at Gustavus Adolphus College will host the College’s 2nd annual TEDxGustavusAdolphusCollege event from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 18th in Wallenberg Auditorium. The conference is titled “Leading the Way Forward: Being, Seeing, Doing” and will feature nine live speakers and two TED Talks via video.

Forensics Team Wins Fourth Straight State Championship

For the fourth straight year and for the seventh time in the last eight years, the Gustavus Adolphus College forensics team won the Minnesota Collegiate Forensics Association State Tournament on Feb. 21-22 at Southwest State University. The Gusties won the team sweepstakes with 543 points, while Concordia College in Moorhead took second place with 306 points.

Pre-Dental Students Thriving at Gustavus

Kyle Hunt ’10 earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Gustavus, completed dental school at the University of Illinois-Chicago, and has now started his career as a dentist at Personal Care Dentistry in Roseville. He is part of a growing list of Gustavus alumni who have taken advantage of one of the College’s pre-professional tracks—in this case the College’s pre-dental program.

Wellbeing Initiative Receives Grant Funding for New Resilience Program

The Wellbeing Initiative at Gustavus Adolphus College has received two separate grants totaling $6,500 to help fund its new resilience program, “Bounce.” The Mankato Clinic Foundation awarded the program $4,000, while the Mansergh-Stuessy Fund for College Innovation provided an additional $2,500.

Hillstrom Museum to Present New Exhibitions on Feb. 16

The Hillstrom Museum of Art at Gustavus Adolphus College will present three new exhibitions beginning on Monday, Feb. 16. Imagined Worlds, Large and Small: the Photographs of Sarah Hobbs and Lori Nix, will be on view through April 19, concurrently with two additional exhibitions, In Memory of Richard L. Hillstrom, 1915-2014, and FOCUS IN/ON: Everett Shinn’s Magician with Shears.

Gustavus to Hold Second Hispanic Film Festival

Gustavus Adolphus College will host its second Hispanic Film Festival over the course of six weeks during February and March. Ian Keesey ’04: Making His Mark at Max Planck Institute

Gustavus to Tackle Sexual Violence at 20th Annual Building Bridges Conference

The 20th annual Building Bridges Conference at Gustavus Adolphus College will be held on Saturday, March 7, and is titled “Hidden in Plain Sight: Recognizing and Rejecting Rape Culture.” Keynote speakers for this year’s conference include Jessica Valenti and Zerlina Maxwell.
