Inauguration Day at Gustavus

Gustavus Adolphus College will inaugurate Rebecca M. Bergman as its 17th President during a 2:30 p.m. investiture ceremony on Friday, Oct. 3 in Christ Chapel. Governor Mark Dayton and U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar will be among the speakers at today's ceremony, which will be live streamed on the Gustavus website.

Presidential Inaugural Events Begin with Wednesday Night Symposium

Gustavus Adolphus College will kick off its series of events related to the inauguration of President Rebecca M. Bergman on Wednesday, Oct. 1 with a symposium on "The Future of the Liberal Arts" The symposium will feature seven speakers, including Gustavus students, employees, and alumni, who will each present a short vignette or reading related to the “future of the liberal arts.” The symposium starts at 7 p.m. in Alumni Hall and will be live streamed.

Nick Atkins ’12 Featured on KARE-11’s Land of 10,000 Stories

Nick Atkins '12 graduated from Gustavus with a degree in physics and went on to join the United States Air Force. Last week, KARE-11 reporter Boyd Huppert told the story of Nick and his 92-year old Grandfather, as part of the station’s ongoing series, Land of 10,000 Stories.

Former Trustee, generous benefactor, and longtime friend of the College, Florence Sponberg, passed away at her North Mankato home on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the age of 97.

Bergman, who started her duties as Gustavus’s President on July 1, 2014, will be officially inaugurated as the College’s 17th president at 2:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel.

Anderson Theatre Opens Season with American Masterwork

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Gustavus Adolphus College will open its 2014-15 season with Tony Kushner’s Angels in America: Part One: Millennium Approaches, Oct. 30-Nov. 2, at the Anderson Theatre.

Andrew Lilja ’13: Pursuing Master’s Degree in Human-Computer Interaction

Gustavus Adolphus College alumnus Andrew Lilja is pursuing his master’s degree in human-computer interaction at Iowa State University. Lilja’s research focuses on the differences between decision making in novices and experts, and how technology can be used to improve the decision making of novices.

Forensics Team Has Successful Start to Season in Kentucky

The Gustavus Adolphus College forensics team made a strong showing last weekend when it opened its 2014-15 tournament schedule on Sept. 20-21 in Bowling Green, Kentucky at Western Kentucky University’s Fall Fiesta Swing. The Gusties finished in third place in Saturday’s tournament and in first place in Sunday’s tournament, topping teams such as the University of Alabama and Illinois State University in the Team Sweepstakes.
