Outstanding Employees Honored on Founders Day
Three members of the Gustavus Adolphus College community will be honored during the Friday, Oct. 31 Daily Sabbath service as recipients of the College’s annual outstanding employee awards. The awards are given out in conjunction with Founders Day, which recognizes the dedication of Old Main on Oct. 31, 1976.
Carleton Professor to Present Documentary on Wednesday Night
Dr. Chérif Këita, Professor of French and Francophone Literatures and Cultures at Carleton College will visit Gustavus Adolphus College on Wednesday, Oct. 29 to present his documentary film Remembering Nokutela. The film will be screened at 7 p.m. in room 127 of Confer Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Gustavus to Induct Nine New Members into Athletics Hall of Fame
The Gustavus Adolphus College Athletics Department has selected nine individuals for induction into its Athletics Hall of Fame. This group will be honored at the Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet, which will be held in Alumni Hall at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, following the Hall of Fame football game between the Gusties and Bethel University set to take place at 1 p.m. on Hollingsworth Field.
Gustavus to Host Public Conversation for District 19A Candidates
With election day (Nov. 4) quickly approaching, Gustavus Adolphus College will host a public conversation between Minnesota House District 19A candidates Clark Johnson and Kim Spears at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, in the Three Crowns Room, located in the C. Charles Jackson Campus Center. The event is free to attend and open to the public.
U of M Professor to Speak on “The Physics of Superheroes”
Dr. James Kakalios is not your average physicist and his public lectures are anything but average. Kakalios will visit Gustavus Adolphus College on Wednesday, Oct. 29 to deliver his popular lecture, “The Physics of Superhero Comics” at 7:30 p.m. in Wallenberg Auditorium. The talk is free and open to the public.
Two Alumni Inducted Into USA Bandy Hall of Fame
Former Gustavus Adolphus men’s hockey players Chris Middlebrook ’79 and Chris Halden ’78 have been inducted into the United States Bandy Hall of Fame. As part of USA Bandy Hall of Fame’s inaugural class, Middlebrook and Halden were two of six individuals inducted at a ceremony held Wednesday, Oct. 22 at the Aster Café in Minneapolis.
Four Gustavus Students Begin Student Teaching in Spain
Gustavus students Lars Ericson, McKenna Jones, Jessica Ries, and Emilie Scott are currently student-teaching in Sotogrande, Spain at the Sotogrande International School. The opportunity to travel abroad and fulfill student-teaching requirements has been popular among education majors.
Dr. Stephen Zunes to Give Wallenberg Lecture on U.S. Middle East Policy
Dr. Stephen Zunes, one of the country’s leading scholars on U.S. Middle East policy and of strategic nonviolent action, will deliver Gustavus Adolphus College’s annual Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Lecture at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28 in the Nobel Hall of Science’s Wallenberg Auditorium.
Gustavus Receives Grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
Gustavus Adolphus College has been awarded a three-year, $100,000 grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The College plans to use the funding to support the development of January term courses for students in their second year.
The Gustavus Dining Service: Not Just Great Food
Gustavus Adolphus College was recently ranked as high as No. 7 in the country on one website's list for "Best Campus Food". While the College's Dining Service does offer students many options at a reasonable price, it also makes a point to listen to students' needs and actively participates in their education.
