Zorongo FlemencoThe Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre will present its show Sol y Luna at Gustavus Adolphus College at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 in Alumni Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Celebrate the exotic and sultry ambiance of the early 1900s in Spain known as “Café Cantante,” when flamenco dancers, musicians, and signers performed for glamorous patrons in cabarets. This event will feature an evening of traditional Spanish flamenco dance and music with master guitarist Chuscales, vocalist Vicente Griego, and dancers Antonio Arrebola, Deborah Elias, and Colette Illarde, with choreography by Zorongo Flemenco founder Susana di Palma.

di Palma founded Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre in 1982. One of the few American Spanish dance companies that present both traditional flamenco programs as well as original theater flamenco works; the company is comprised of an ensemble of international artists, dancers and musicians who are renowned for bringing the power, passion and virtuosity of the art of flamenco to American audiences.

The Oct. 30 event at Gustavus is part of the Minnesota State Arts Board’s Arts Tour Minnesota program and is supported by funds from the Legacy Amendment. The event is also sponsored by the Gustavus Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. For more information, contact Assistant Professor in Spanish Ana Adams at aadams3@gustavus.edu.
