Gustavus Adolphus College has been named to the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, a program of the Corporation for National & Community Service.
First launched in 2006, the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll annually highlights the role colleges and universities play in solving community problems and placing more students on a lifelong path of civic engagement by recognizing institutions that achieve meaningful, measurable outcomes in the communities they serve.
Honorees were chosen based on a series of selection factors including scope and innovation of service projects, percentage of student participation in service activities, incentives for service, and the extent to which the school offers academic service-learning courses. Gustavus has been named to the honor roll four times since 2009.
Just days after the Honor Roll was released, the Mankato Free Press published a front page story about Study Buddies – one of the College’s community service related programs. The Study Buddies program allows Gustavus students to work with students from the St. Peter community, providing educational opportunities not offered to students in a larger classroom setting.
