For the third straight year, Gustavus Adolphus College has been recognized for its commitment to sustainability by The Princeton Review. The nationally-known education services company selected Gustavus for inclusion in its free downloadable book, “The Princeton Review’s Guide to 322 Green Colleges: 2012 Edition.”
Created by The Princeton Review in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council, the book is the only free, comprehensive guidebook profiling institutions of higher education that demonstrate a notable commitment to sustainability in their academic offerings, campus infrastructure, activities, and career preparation.
The Princeton Review chose the 322 schools based on a survey it conducted in 2011 of hundreds of colleges across the United States and Canada. Based on answers to 50 questions, schools were given a “Green Rating” score between 60 and 99. The 322 schools in the guide received scores of 83 or above in that assessment.
In the book’s profile about Gustavus, the Princeton Review noted several “green highlights” including the existence of the Johnson Center for Environmental Innovation and the Kitchen Cabinet committee, the installation of solar panels on several buildings, the institution’s strong commitment to recycling, strong academic programs in environmental studies and biology, and the College’s desire to pursue LEED Platinum certification on new buildings.
