Women’s Hockey Advances to National Semifinals Posted on March 12th, 2012 by

The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s hockey team advanced to the Division III national semifinals for the third straight season with a 4-2 victory over the  University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Saturday, March 10 at Don Roberts Ice Rink.

The Gusties trailed 1-0 after the first period, but scored three unanswered goals in the second period to take control of the game. Senior forward Allie Schwab scored twice in the period, while senior forward Mollie Carroll also added a goal.

River Falls was able to cut the lead to 3-2 with a goal midway through the third period, but Gustavus answered back with a goal by sophomore forward Amanda Cartony to reclaim the two-goal advantage.

Senior goaltender Danielle Justice made 24 saves in the victory, including 13 crucial stops in the third period.

The Gusties are scheduled to play Norwich College in a national semifinal game at 6 p.m. Central Time on Friday, March 16 in Rochester, New York. The team will then either play for third place or the national championship on Saturday, March 17.
