Gustavus Music Showcase Set for March 25 Posted on February 7th, 2012 by

Gustavus Adolphus College and its Department of Music will feature four premier touring ensembles at a unique event on Sunday, March 25 at the Ted Mann Concert Hall in Minneapolis. The Gustavus Music Showcase will allow audience members to see the Gustavus Choir, the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra, the Gustavus Wind Orchestra, and the Gustavus Jazz Lab Band in one afternoon performance at 2 p.m.

Along with other pieces, all four ensembles will perform a piece commissioned by a prominent composer. The Gustavus Choir will perform Alone by American composer Eric Whitacre. The Gustavus Wind Orchestra will perform Intrepid Promise by American composer James Stephenson. The Gustavus Symphony Orchestra will perform Faith and Perseverance by Chinese composer Chen Yi. The Gustavus Jazz Lab Band will perform Outside, Looking In by American composer Alan Baylock.

This signature event, returning during this year of Sesquicentennial celebrations, is a unique opportunity for College musicians to perform for a new audience in a different venue. The Gustavus Music Showcase was previously held in 2005, 2006, and 2008.

Tickets are $17.50 for adults and $10 for students and can be purchased online at gustavustickets.com or by calling the Gustavus Office of Marketing and Communication at 507-933-7520. For more information, including directions to Ted Mann Concert Hall, visit gustavus.edu/musicshowcase.
