Four Gustavus Adolphus College students will display and explain their undergraduate research at the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul on Wednesday, Feb. 22, as part of the annual Private College Scholars at the Capitol program.
Gustavus students Amanda Hawkinson, Carl Schiltz, John Schmidt, and James Trevathan will have posters on display in the Minnesota Capitol Rotunda between 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Gustavus will be one of 14 Minnesota private colleges represented at the event.
Schiltz will be presenting his research conducted with faculty advisor Dr. Jeffrey Dahlseid titled, “Developing a Method to Regulate Production of Authentic mRNAs in Yeast.” Hawkinson, Schmidt, and Trevathan will be presenting their research conducted with faculty advisor Dr. Tom Huber titled “Noncontact Excitation of Vibration Using Ultrasound Radiation Force.”
This year, 39 students and their faculty advisors will present posters describing their research in various disciplines. From musicology to mathematics, applied health sciences to Hispanic studies, this event showcase the breadth and quality of undergraduate research taking place at Minnesota’s private colleges.
This annual event not only helps recognize undergraduate student research, but it also provides a meaningful opportunity for students to strengthen their ability to communicate about their work. More information about the event is available on the Minnesota Private College Council website.
