Gustavus Ranked Among Top 100 Liberal Arts Colleges by U.S. News Posted on September 13th, 2011 by

Gustavus Adolphus College is once again ranked among the top 100 liberal arts colleges in the nation according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual college rankings for 2012.

Gustavus is ranked 81st on the magazine’s “Best Liberal Arts Colleges” list, which is comparable to where the College has been ranked the past three years – 88th in 2009, 80th in 2010, and 79th in 2011 – by the publication.

“We are pleased that we continue to be listed in the U.S. News rankings as one of the “Best Liberal Arts Colleges” in the country. If you look around the campus today, it is clear that the College is moving forward in a very positive direction,” said Gustavus President Jack R. Ohle. “This is our Sesquicentennial year, our 150th anniversary. We just opened the new state-of-the-art Beck Academic Hall, and recently welcomed the largest incoming class in the College’s history.”

Released to the public Tuesday, Sept. 13 on USNews.com, the rankings are scheduled to be published in the annual America’s Best Colleges guidebook, which will hit newsstands and book stores on Tuesday, Sept. 20. This year’s “Best Liberal Arts Colleges” list includes information on 252 colleges and universities that U.S. News & World Report considers the top liberal arts colleges.

The rankings distributed by U.S. News & World Report are formulated with the use of statistical data and peer assessment scores from similar liberal arts colleges. Areas that the magazine uses to compare schools include freshman retention rate, four-year graduation rate, average class size, student-to-faculty ratio, percentage of faculty who are full-time, average alumni giving rate, and average SAT/ACT scores.
