Sept. 17 is Celebrate St. Peter Day Posted on September 9th, 2011 by

As part of Gustavus Adolphus College’s Sesquicentennial celebration, Saturday, Sept. 17 has been designated Celebrate St. Peter Day, to honor and thank the community that has served as a wonderful home for the College since 1876.

While community members from the greater St. Peter area are always welcome to campus, the College would like to extend a special invitation to the public to attend events and explore the campus on Sept. 17.

The following is a schedule of events for Celebrate St. Peter Day. All events are free and open to the public.

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. / Fall Fest in Linnaeus Arboretum / Includes guided tours of the arboretum, hay rides, pottery making, pumpkin painting, scavenger hunt, face painting, alpacas, book signings by Herb Chilstrom and Bob Douglas, and more.

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. / Olin Observatory Open House / Go to the roof of Olin Hall to learn more about astronomy and to use the telescopes.

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. / Geology Museum in the Nobel Hall of Science / View the permanent collection of rocks, fossils, and gems, including rocks that glow in the dark. Also view the new exhibit on the geology of the Minnesota River Valley.

10:15 – 10:45 a.m. / Dixieland Band: Flood Plain Four / Linnaeus Arboretum

11-11:20 a.m. / Theater in the Arboretum / Put on by St. Peter High School students

11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. / Dixieland Band: Flood Plain Four / Linnaeus Arboretum

12 – 12:20 p.m. / Theater in the Arboretum

12 – 2 p.m. / Fall Floral 101 / Demonstrations by Mary’s Flowers in the Linnaeus Arboretum

1 p.m. / Gustavus football vs. Mayville State / Hollingsworth Field

1 – 1:20 p.m. / Theater in the Arboretum

1:30 p.m. / Hillstrom Museum of Art Gallery Talk / Gustavus faculty artist Kristen Lowe discusses her exhibition “Comfort Me, Said He.”

2 p.m. / Gustavus men’s soccer vs. Concordia College / Soccer and Track Complex

3 p.m. / Hillstrom Museum of Art Gallery Talk

3 p.m. / Border Collies herding and agility show / Linnaeus Arboretum.
