Gustavus Kicks Off Sesquicentennial Year Posted on September 5th, 2011 by

When classes convened at Gustavus Adolphus College on Tuesday, Sept. 6, it marked the beginning of the College’s Sesquicentennial year – the 150th anniversary of the College.

Special events and celebrations are scheduled throughout the year as the Gustavus community will reflect on the past, celebrate current excellence, and prepare for the future.

Sesquicentennial celebration plans include:

  • Monday, Sept. 5 / Back-to-School Bash featuring the Johnny Holm Band / 5 – 8 p.m. / Lund Arena
  • Tuesday, Sept. 6 / First day of classes and opening convocation ceremony / 10 a.m. / Christ Chapel
  • Saturday, Sept. 17 / Celebrate St. Peter Day / All day
  • Friday, Sept. 30 / Sesquicentennial and campaign kick-off dinner / 6:30 p.m. / Lund Arena
  • Saturday, Oct. 1 / Dedication of Beck Academic Hall / 10:30 a.m. / West Mall
  • Saturday, Oct. 1 / Homecoming
  • Oct. 4-5 / 47th Annual Nobel Conference – “The Brain and Being Human” / Lund Arena
  • Oct. 14-16 / Family Weekend
