Gustavus to Host Minnesota All-State Lutheran Choir Posted on June 13th, 2011 by

The Minnesota All-State Lutheran Choir will perform at Christ Chapel on June 24.

The 40-voice Minnesota All-State Lutheran Choir will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 24 in Christ Chapel on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College. The concert is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be collected.

Chosen from applicants from all over the state of Minnesota, members of the Minnesota All-State Lutheran Choir (MASLC) have been rehearsing at Mount Carmel Ministries Camp near Alexandria, Minn., prior to embarking on their present tour which runs from June 18-29. The tour includes 14 concerts in cities such as Perham, Bemidji, Brainerd, Marshall, Windom, Edina, and others. Click here for a complete 2011 MASLC tour itinerary.

The MASLC program, celebrating its 42nd year, exists to provide an aesthetic experience via choral music and to impart to local congregations enthusiasm and appreciation for music, new and old, in the worship service. This choir of high school age students will be performing a great variety of music from the classics to gospel.

Founded in 1969 by Mark Aamot, the choir is currently under the direction of Dr. Thomas D. Rossin. Now in his 21st year with the MASLC, Rossin is the founder and director of “Exultate”, a chamber choir and orchestra based in the Twin Cities.

Unique to this concert is audience participation. Each concert is concluded with the choir seated within the audience and everyone taking part in the singing of hymns. This is done to share with the congregations the joy involved in singing the hymns of the church. Another unique aspect of this concert is that the choir sings only a portion of its concert in the traditional choir formation. Placing itself in other formations throughout the sanctuary, the choir effectively involves the audience in this praise of God through music.
