Gustavus to Host Relay For Life Event Posted on April 28th, 2011 by

Colleges Against Cancer will host the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraiser, Relay For Life, at Gustavus Adolphus College April 30 and May 1. More than 45 teams and nearly 400 individuals are registered to participate in the event.

Relay For Life has become one of the most successful fundraising events in the country, bringing more than 3.5 million people together annually to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, to remember loved ones lost to the disease, and to help fight the disease by raising money for cancer research. Teams set a fundraising goal, camp out at the event location, and then have at least one representative on the track at all times during the overnight event, which can last up to 24 hours in length.

The Gustavus Relay For Life event will take place at the Lund Center for Physical Education and Health. The event will kickoff at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 30 by honoring those who have survived cancer with an opening survivor lap. At 9:30 p.m., those who have been lost to the disease will be remembered through the lighting of luminary bags. The event will conclude at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, May 1 with the announcement of the fundraising total.
