Central College in Pella, Iowa, today announced the appointment of Gustavus faculty member Mary Strey, Ph.D., as its next vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty, effective July 1, 2011. Dr. Strey is professor of chemistry and professor of biology at Gustavus and served as the College’s inaugural provost and vice president for academic affairs from 2007 to 2009.
Before coming to Gustavus, Dr. Strey served the University of Dayton as dean of arts and sciences and professor of biology. Her professional background also includes 13 years at the College of Holy Cross, as faculty member, coordinator of science programs, and associate dean of the college. She holds a B.A. from Bowdoin College and Ph.D. from Dartmouth College.
In his announcement, Central College President Dr. Mark Putnam said, “Dr. Strey is extremely talented and brings a vast amount of experience to a position that is integral to our continued transformation through innovation, team work, transparency, and collaboration.”
