Remember Me Exhibit

Gustavus will host a traveling gallery of interactive artwork from Colombia, titled “Remember Me: Voices of the Silenced,” from March 14-25, 2011, in the Folke Bernadotte Memorial Library. The artwork testifies to the struggles of thousands of innocent victims of violence during the past 50 years in Colombia. The exhibit will open with a free, public lecture at 7 p.m. Monday, March 14 in Alumni Hall, located in the O.J. Johnson Student Union.

The lecture will be presented by Nils Dybvig and Michele Braley, social workers from Minneapolis who have worked with Christian Peacemaker Teams in Colombia since 2006. A reception and the opening of the exhibit will follow.

The display, located on the main floor of the library at Gustavus, will be open Mondays-Thursdays 8 a.m.-1 a.m., Fridays 8 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sundays 11 a.m.-1 a.m.

Remember Me will travel and be on display in various locations around the United States for three years. The interactive exhibit began its tour in April 2010 and will remain in the Midwest until April 2011. After its time in the Midwest, the exhibit will travel to the West Coast for one year and then to the East Coast for its last year.

The art from the exhibit is directly from Colombia and was created and inspired by victims of violence. The gallery consists of testimonies from individual victims and entire communities affected by violence.

The Remember Me traveling gallery is sponsored by the following Gustavus organizations or offices: Peace Studies; the Office of the Chaplains; Latin American, Latino, and Caribbean Studies; the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures; Crossroads; Amnesty International; and Folke Bernadotte Memorial Library.
