Gustavus Adolphus College has been named one of America’s top 100 colleges for 2010 by Forbes.com. In its latest college guide, America’s Best Colleges, Forbes.com lists Gustavus as the 98th best college in the country.

Gustavus was one of three schools in the state of Minnesota to crack the top 100 as only Carleton College (21st) and Macalester College (55th) were ranked higher. St. Olaf College (111th) and the University of Minnesota, Morris (143rd) made the top 150. Williams College, a small private college in Massachusetts, was named the top overall college followed by Princeton, Amherst, the United States Military Academy, and MIT.

“We are very honored to be highly ranked in such a prestigious and respected publication as Forbes,” Gustavus President Jack R. Ohle said. “The students, faculty, administration, staff, and alumni who make Gustavus such a special place should all take great pride in this news.”

The new rankings come just weeks after the Princeton Review placed Gustavus in its annual college guidebook, The Best 373 Colleges, 2011 Edition. The Princeton Review also named Gustavus one of the best colleges in the Midwest along with ranking it 18th for best campus food.

The Forbes rankings were compiled with research from the Center for College Affordability & Productivity. According to Forbes, the ranking of more than 600 undergraduate colleges and universities is determined based on “the quality of the education they provide, the experiences of the students and how much they achieve.” The rankings are based on five criteria: student satisfaction, postgraduate success, student debt, four-year graduation rate and competitive awards.
