The Gustavus Jazz Lab Band and the Adolphus Jazz Ensemble, both directed by Steve Wright, will present their combined fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21 in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
The Adolphus Jazz Ensemble will open the evening’s performance with two jazz standards; Blue Train by John Coltrane and Body and Soul written by John Green. They will continue with Sammy Nestico’s Smack Dab in the Middle, followed by Caliente Blues by Jim Snidero and Whirlwind by Rick Stitzel.
Following a performance for the Gustavus Library Associates’ guests at this year’s A Royal Affair, the Gustavus Jazz Lab Band will continue the night with selections from their semester performances at the Nobel Conference and Family Weekend. Their program includes well known works by Duke Ellington (Cottontail and I Let a Song Go Out of My Heart), Billy Strayhorn (A Flower if a Lovesome Thing) and Miles Davis (Four Miles), along with newer works Missing Tooth by Doug Beach, Agua de Beber by Antonio Carlos Jobim, and Widow’s Walk by Rick Margitza.
