All The Old, Familiar Places

St. Peter musicians Michael and Bonnie Jorgensen will present a recital of voice and piano Sunday, Oct. 4, at Gustavus Adolphus College to celebrate the release of their new recording on compact disc, All The Old, Familiar Places. Sunday’s concert begins at 3:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. Guest artists David Klee, flute and David Jorgensen, guitar, will join the Jorgensens for the performance.

A number of these selections will be performed on Sunday’s recital including  works from Aaron Copland’s Old American Songs, Cole Porter’s Night and Day and Ol’ Man River from Jerome Kern’s Show Boat. The recital also includes Leonard Bernstein’s A Simple Song, which is not on the CD.

In addition to works from the recording, the Jorgensen’s will open with Leoncavallo’s Zazá, piccola zingara from Zazá and the Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen by Gustav Mahler. They will be joined on stage by flutist David Klee for a performance of Fantasie by Georges Bizet and Irlandaise from Claude Bolling’s Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano. Later in the program, guest  guitarist and son David Jorgensen will join Michael for a performance of Lennon & McCartney’s Blackbird.

A reception for the performers will be held in the recital hall lobby following Sunday’s performance. Copies of the CD will be available for purchase at that time. Sunday’s recital by Michael and Bonnie Jorgensen and the CD release celebration, All The Old, Familiar Places, is free and open to the public.
