The Gustavus Adolphus College physics department’s chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) has been selected as an Outstanding SPS Chapter for the 2007-08 school year.

The selection was based on the depth and breadth of SPS activities conducted at Gustavus in the areas of physics research, public science outreach, physics tutoring programs, hosting and representation at physics meetings, and providing social interaction for chapter members.

The Society of Physics Students was formed in 1968 as a professional association explicitly designed for students with an interest in physics. The SPS exists to help students transform themselves into contributing members of the professional community.

There are more than 700 chapters of SPS at colleges and universities across the United States. Gustavus’s chapter of SPS was one of 56 chapters recognized as outstanding for 2007-08, as well as one of two chapters recognized in the state of Minnesota.
