Birr Places Third at Olympic Curling Trials Posted on March 3rd, 2009 by

Kevin Birr, assistant catering manager for the Gustavus Adolphus College dining service, and teammates Todd Birr, Paul Pustovar, and Greg Wilson placed third at the United States Olympic Curling Trials which concluded on Saturday, Feb. 28 in Broomfield, Colo.

The Todd Birr Rink finished in a tie for second place with a 6-3 record after round robin play, and was seeded third in the playoff round after losing a tie-breaker match.

Birr’s team defeated the Craig Brown Rink of Madison, Wis., 9-6 in a first-round playoff match, but was eliminated in the semifinals with a 10-4 loss to the John Shuster Rink of Duluth, Minn. The John Shuster Rink went on to win the Olympic Trials and will represent the United States in the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
