Jo Ellen Fair, professor of journalism and mass communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will give this year’s Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Lecture at 7 p.m. tonight in Wallenberg Auditorium.

Jonas Hafström, a Swedish diplomat, currently serving as Sweden’s ambassador to the United States will visit Gustavus Adolphus College on Wednesday, Nov. 10.

The award-winning a cappella sensation Home Free will perform at Gustavus Adolphus College’s Jussi Björling Recital Hall Saturday, Nov. 6. This Artist Series performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public.

The Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority at Gustavus Adolphus College is hosting its first annual Battle of the Bands event at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12 in Alumni Hall. The event will raise money for the Robbie Page Memorial Fund and Gillette Children’s Hospital of Minneapolis.

The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s hockey team recorded a 2-1 victory over Augsburg in its 2010-11 season opener on Friday, Oct. 29. The game was a non-conference contest and part of the MIAC Showcase at Fogerty Arena in Blaine, Minn.

Sabrina Ramet, one of the world’s leading scholars on the Balkans, will give a free public lecture at Gustavus Adolphus College at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 in room 103 of the F.W. Olin Hall for Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science.

Three members of the Gustavus Adolphus College community were honored during the Friday, Oct. 29 daily chapel service as recipients of the College’s annual outstanding employee awards. The awards were handed out in conjunction with Founder’s Day, which recognizes the dedication of Old Main on Oct. 31, 1876.

Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine recently released its Best Value in Private Colleges list for 2010-11. Gustavus Adolphus College ranked 47th on the list of 100 private liberal arts colleges in the nation.

James Sorenson, a 2005 alumnus of Gustavus Adolphus College, won the inaugural Mankato Marathon on Saturday, Oct. 23 with a time of 2:37.04.
