  • Gustavus Students Lend a Hand in New Orleans Area

    Ninety-four Gustavus Adolphus College students took two busses south to Slidell, La., a suburb of New Orleans, March 30-April 7 during the College’s spring break not to bask in the sun on a sandy beach, but to take part in the Habitat for Humanity Collegiate Challenge.

    Gustavus Adolphus College senior Andrew Howard will present a paper, titled “The Runner and the Iliad” April 14 at the 103rd annual meeting of the Classical Association of the Middle West and South (CAMWS).

  • Student Produced Documentary Now Available Online

    A documentary produced by four Gustavus Adolphus College students, titled “The Changing Face of America,” may now be viewed online. The 35-minute film addresses topics associated with immigration.

  • Two Gustavus Faculty Members Receive NEH Summer Stipends

    Two Gustavus Adolphus College faculty members — Associate Professor of Religion Mary Solberg and Assistant Professor of History Sujay Rao — recently received Summer Stipends from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to support project research.

  • Author and Yoga Instructor Coming to Gustavus

    Gustavus Adolphus College will welcome author and yoga instructor Matthew Sanford to campus April 18-19. Sanford is the author of Waking: A Memoir of Trauma and Transcendence, which chronicles his journey from an intensive care unit to becoming a paralyzed yoga teacher and founder of a nonprofit organization.

  • Speaker Will Address Sex Crimes Awareness

    Stephen Thompson, one of America’s leading experts on sexual assault, sexual harassment, and stalking, will speak at Gustavus Adolphus College on April 11. The event is open to the public and will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Alumni Hall, located in the O.J. Johnson Student Union.

  • Gustavus Sophomore Named a Phillips Scholar

    Gustavus Adolphus College sophomore Ashley Gibbs has been named a Jay and Rose Phillips Family Foundation Scholarship recipient for 2007-08 and 2008-09. Gibbs intends to develop a kindergarten readiness program for Latino children in Richfield.

  • Linnaeus Symposium Will Celebrate Swedish Botanist

    Gustavus Adolphus College will hold its second Linnaeus Symposium on April 25. This year’s event, titled “Linnaeus @ 300,” was planned to correspond with the 300th anniversary of the birth of Carl Linnaeus, the Swedish botanist for whom the Gustavus arboretum is named.

  • Revised Museum Hours at Gustavus

    In conjunction with Spring Break at Gustavus Adolphus College, the school’s Hillstrom Museum of Art will be open limited hours. During the break, which runs from Friday, March 30 through Sunday, April 8, the Hillstrom Museum’s hours will be limited to 1—4 p.m. from Monday, April 2 through Thursday, April 5.

    Gustavus Adolphus College senior Alex Zupan has been named a USA Today All-USA College Academic All-Star. In addition to being one of 60 students in the nation named to this list, Zupan was also recently honored with a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Postgraduate Scholarship.
