The Gustavus Adolphus College forensics team won a national title on Monday, April 18 by finishing in first place in the team sweepstakes of the President’s II Division at the National Forensic Association’s (NFA) National Championships at Illinois State University.

Minneapolis poet Anna George Meek will appear at Gustavus Adolphus College on Wednesday, April 27 to read from her award-winning book of poetry Acts of Contortion along with other works. The event will start at 7 p.m. in the Melva Lind Interpretive Center.

Gustavus Library Associates (GLA) is preparing to host the first ever Books in Bloom event May 6-8 at the Folke Bernadotte Memorial Library on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College.

The Epsilon Pi Alpha fraternity at Gustavus Adolphus College will host the fourth annual Take The Hill Triathlon Saturday, May 7. All Proceeds from the event will benefit the nonprofit organization Insulindependence.

The Choir of Christ Chapel of Gustavus Adolphus College will make stops in Minnesota and Wisconsin during its upcoming tour April 28-May 1.

Frank Abagnale Jr., whose life story provided inspiration for the 2002 feature film Catch Me If You Can, will speak publicly at Gustavus Adolphus College at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 3 in Christ Chapel.

Gustavus Adolphus College will hold its annual Gustavus Author Tea at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28 in the Courtyard Café, located on the lower level of the C. Charles Jackson Campus Center. Those being recognized include Mark Bjelland, Dennis Johnson, Debra Eckerman Pitton, John Rezmerski, and Thia Cooper.

Pastor Jon V. Anderson, Bishop of the Southwestern Minnesota Synod of the ELCA, received the 2011 Covenant Award at the annual convention of the Gustavus Adolphus College Association of Congregations on Saturday, April 9.

The organization Men Can Stop Rape, Inc., will lead a violence prevention seminar at Gustavus Adolphus College at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 13 in Alumni Hall. The event is free and open to all Gustavus students, faculty, and staff.

Sister Helen Prejean, CSJ, author of the critically-acclaimed book Dead Man Walking, and Robert Blecker, professor of law at New York Law School, will keynote the 31st annual MAYDAY! Peace Conference at Gustavus Adolphus College on Wednesday, May 4. This year’s conference is titled “Executing Justice: Debating Capital Punishment.”
