On Friday, June 24, Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students JoNes VanHecke announced that Charlie Potts had accepted the position of Director of Residential Life at Gustavus Adolphus College.

The Gustavus Global Insight program, now in its fourth year of existence, will focus on the Circumpolar Region of Alaska, Northern Canada, Russia, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden throughout the 2011-12 academic year.

The Rev. Craig Johnson, a 1969 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College, has decided to resign his position as Bishop of the Minneapolis Area Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to accept the position of Interim Senior Pastor at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.

As Gilbert and Sullivan’s H.M.S. Pinafore drops anchor on the Guthrie Theatre Stage June 18 – August 28, 2011, she will be captained by Twin Cities actor/vocalist Robert O. Berdahl ’90. Guthrie Artistic Director Joe Dowling directs this summer’s hit musical which features Berdahl as Captain Corcoran and Christina Baldwin as Little Buttercup.

As part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jussi Bjorling, the Jussi Bjorling Society-USA, in cooperation with Gustavus Adolphus College, will present a concert in memory of the legendary Swedish tenor on Friday, June 24.

The 40-voice Minnesota All-State Lutheran Choir will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 24 in Christ Chapel on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College.

Doug Huff, Professor of Philosophy at Gustavus Adolphus College, was recently named the winner of the 2010 Hidden River Arts Playwrighting Award for his play A Far Shore.

Recent Gustavus Adolphus College graduates Sara Yungner, Katie Schenfeld, and Sam Frank have all earned a spot on the 2011 CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America At-Large Team.
