Gustavus students will once again bring awareness to hunger and homelessness through a week of special programming, including the 10th annual “Sleep Out.”

From 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 to the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 14, students will simulate the experiences of homeless people. They sleep outside (or inside) of Christ Chapel without returning to their residence hall rooms or apartments, go without showering, and eat only food that others provide.

Gustavus’s Action Supporting All People (ASAP) is coordinating the annual event. In addition to ASAP members, participants include members of political science professor Richard Leitch’s First Term Seminar, as well as other Gustavus community members who wish to join the experience.

In addition to the “Sleep Out,” the following events are being held during this national Hunger and Homelessness Week:

Nov. 12 — 10 a.m. Chapel Homily / Christ Chapel

Nov. 12 — 8 p.m. Vigil for Children / outside of Christ Chapel

Nov. 13 — 6 p.m. Hunger Banquet (advance RSVP required)

Nov. 14 — 6 p.m. Conversation and Free Meal / Lundgren House

Nov. 14 — 8 p.m. Theatre Performance / The Dive

Nov. 15 — 8 p.m. Homeless Youth in America Discussion and Dessert / Courtyard Cafe

All of the above events are open to all. For more information, contact ASAP student leader kobradov@gustavus.edu.
