Anderson TheatreThe Department of Theatre and Dance at Gustavus Adolphus College will open its 2014-15 season with Tony Kushner’s Angels in America: Part One: Millennium Approaches, Oct. 30-Nov. 2, at the Anderson Theatre.

One of the most important plays of the last 100 years, Angels in America explores such themes as religion, sexuality, and politics, against the backdrop of the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s. Award-winning playwright Tony Kushner (Lincoln; Caroline, or Change) brings many important questions about God, love, and humanity to the forefront of our national consciousness in this beautiful, often humorous, and always powerful masterwork.

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Gustavus focuses on bringing dynamic and innovative productions to the Anderson Theatre stage, and this production promises to be no different, with an exciting, original production design, created to showcase their unique thrust stage.

Amy Seham returns to the director’s chair for this production, after the success of Trojan Barbie and HAIR, which she directed at the college last year. “This show has been on my bucket list for years, and the time finally felt right,” Seham said. She views Angels in America as a valuable expression of the department’s commitment to theatre that “works for social justice and personal transformation.”
