Gustavus Begins 153rd Academic Year

Tuesday, Sept. 2 marks the beginning of the 153rd academic year in the history of Gustavus Adolphus College as classes will commence for the College’s 2,500 full-time students.

President Rebecca M. Bergman will welcome all students and staff back to campus at the College’s Opening Convocation at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in Christ Chapel. The College’s Opening Convocation is open to the public.

Opening Convocation and the first day of classes comes on the heels of the College’s four-day New Student Orientation program. Gustavus welcomed the 652 members of the class of 2018 to campus on Friday, Aug. 29. You can view pictures from move-in day on the College’s Flickr page.

The first two months of the academic year are always some of the busiest months of the year at Gustavus. Here are some of the events that will take place on campus in September and October:

September 2: First day of Fall Semester classes

September 6: Gustavus football team hosts Crown College for season opener, 1 p.m., Hollingsworth Field

September 10: Reading in Common Lecture, Kelsey Timmerman, 7:30 p.m., Alumni Hall

October 3: Inauguration of President Rebecca M. Bergman, 2:30 p.m., Christ Chapel

October 4: Homecoming: The Great Gustie Gathering.

October 7-8: The 50th Annual Nobel Conference: Where Does Science Go From Here?

 October 11-12: Gustavus Family Weekend
