Campaign Gustavus $125 MillionGustavus Adolphus College has passed a historic milestone in philanthropic giving, as Campaign Gustavus has reached the $125 million mark toward its ambitious $150 million goal. The announcement was made at a donor recognition dinner on Friday, April 25, by the College’s Board of Trustees Chair George Hicks ’75.

“This announcement signals great progress in the Campaign and moves us ahead of schedule to reaching our goal of $150 million in new commitments to the College by Homecoming Weekend in October 2015,” said Campaign Gustavus Co-Chair and Trustee Warren Beck ’67.

Campaign Gustavus is the largest and most ambitious campaign in the College’s history. It is built on three pillars—Opportunity, Teaching & Learning, and Community—and is intended to help fund many of the strategic initiatives recommended by Commission Gustavus 150—the College’s strategic plan.

Campaign Gustavus has already led to the construction of Beck Academic Hall—the College’s state-of-the-art and LEED Platinum certified 125,000 square foot facility that houses the academic departments of Communication Studies, Economics and Management, History, Psychological Science, and Sociology and Anthropology. The Campaign is also generating funds that will make it possible for the College to renovate the Folke Bernadotte Memorial Library and relocate the Hillstrom Museum of Art, expand and renovate the Alfred Nobel Hall of Science, and renovate the Anderson Social Science Building along with other important projects that will strengthen the academic programs of the College. Campaign Gustavus has also increased the number of scholarships available to students in order to ensure that a Gustavus education is affordable and accessible to talented and diverse students from around the world. In addition, the Campaign has strengthened the quality of teaching at the College by helping to establish seven new endowed faculty positions.

Gifts, pledges, and commitments have come from alumni, trustees, parents, faculty and staff members, students, corporations, foundations, community members, and other friends of the College.

“The level of generous giving by alumni and friends across the country and all around the world since we announced Campaign Gustavus in September 2011 demonstrates the importance of the work being done by the Board of Trustees, the faculty, staff, and students in sharing the important message of the value of a Gustavus education,” President Jack Ohle said. “A gift to Gustavus is a gift for the future. I applaud those who have made a commitment to Campaign Gustavus because those commitments help to ensure that young men and women will continue to come to this great residential, liberal arts college where knowledge is instilled and lifelong learning is valued and has been since 1862.”
