Tuesday Marks Beginning of 151st Academic Year

Gustavus Adolphus College will begin its 151st academic year on Tuesday, Sept. 4, when classes commence for the College’s 2,500 full-time students. President Jack R. Ohle will welcome all students and staff back to campus at the College’s Opening Convocation at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in Christ Chapel.

Students will head back to classes on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

President Jack R. Ohle will welcome all students and staff back to campus at the College’s Opening Convocation at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in Christ Chapel. The College’s Opening Convocation is open to the public.

It will be a busy and exciting first two months of the academic year, highlighted by a visit from Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden on Friday, Oct. 5. Here are some of the events that will take place on campus in September and October:

September 4: First day of Fall Semester classes

September 10-December 2: 150 Years of Swedish Art: Highlights from the Swedish National Collections in Stockholm, Hillstrom Museum of Art

September 11: Reading in Common Lecture with Author Wes Moore, 7 p.m., Christ Chapel

September 14: Nobel Conference Preview Lecture with William F. Fitzgerald, 2:30 p.m., Alumni Hall

September 15: Celebrate St. Peter Day

September 15: Dedication of the Coneflower Prairie, 10:30 a.m., Linnaeus Arboretum

September 15: Fall Fest in the Arb

September 29: Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet, 5 p.m., Alumni Hall

October 2-3: 48th Nobel Conference: Our Global Ocean, Lund Center

October 5: Royal Visit from Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden

October 5-7: Family Weekend

October 8-14: Homecoming Week

October 12: Sesquicentennial Closing Dinner, 6 p.m., Evelyn Young Dining Room

October 13: Dedication of the West Mall, 10 a.m.

October 13: Homecoming football game, 1:30 p.m., Hollingsworth Field

October 25: Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Lecture featuring Ingemar Eliasson, former governor of Värmland (1990-2002) and Marshall of the Realm at the Royal Court (2003-2010).

October 25-27: Behold the Coach, in a Blazer, Uninsured (and other good intentions), Anderson Theatre
