The Office of Institutional Advancement at Gustavus Adolphus College is proud to announce that thanks to the generosity of alumni, parents, and friends the Gustavus Annual Fund has achieved its goal for the 2012 fiscal year by raising more than $4.5 million.
“It’s been a spectacular year of celebration for the College and this just adds to the momentum,” stated President Jack Ohle. “As we look ahead to the close of the Sesquicentennial and future challenges and opportunities, it’s wonderful to know Gustavus and our students have a strong foundation of support.”
A total of 9,925 donors gave more than $4.51 million from June 1, 2011 to May 31, 2012.
“It has been humbling to see the level of support for our students and the institution. This year’s success builds on the strong history of giving at Gustavus and continues a wonderful tradition of philanthropy,” added Thomas Young ’88 Vice President for Institutional Advancement. “Thank you to everyone for your thoughtful contributions to this special place.”
Young also points out that the College enjoyed increased alumni participation this year and that more than 70 percent of the Class of 2012 gave a gift to the College in the weeks preceding graduation.
“Foundations and grant-making institutions look at the percentage of alumni who give to their alma mater as a gauge of success,” stated Young. “The higher the participation percentage the more opportunities the College has to secure grants for research and other projects down the road.”
The Gustavus Annual Fund helps bridge the gap between what it costs to attend Gustavus and what students can afford to pay. It provides need-based financial assistance to approximately 70 percent of students and can also be used to support campus improvements, operational needs, and program support.
