Diversity Week Themed “Be the Change: Act! Now”

Gustavus Adolphus College’s annual Diversity Week is scheduled for April 23-27 and is themed “Be the Change: Act! Now.” A week’s worth of events will conclude with the annual Diversity Awards Banquet at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 27 in Alumni Hall.

Here is a schedule of events for the week:

  • Monday, April 23 / Paper chain and petition signing / 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. / Jackson Campus Center
  • Monday, April 23 / Dream Act open forum and candlelight vigil / 7-8 p.m. / Heritage Banquet Room
  • Tuesday, April 24 / Wear Your Cause On Your Sleeves / 6-9 p.m. / Johns Family Courtyard
  • Wednesday, April 25 / Use Your Voice Workshop / 7-9 p.m. / Courtyard Café
  • Thursday, April 26 / Wall of Release / 2:30-5 p.m. / Eckman Mall
  • Thursday, April 26 / Identity Parade / 6 p.m. / Eckman Mall
  • Thursday, April 26 / Bonfire / 6:45 p.m. / Outside Complex
  • Friday, April 27 / Diversity Awards Banquet / 5:30 p.m. / Alumni Hall

The Diversity Awards Banquet is a collaborative effort between the Diversity Leadership Council and the Diversity Center to recognize and highlight the dedication of Gustavus faculty, staff, students, and student organizations in creating a socially just and oppression free environment.

Awards will be given to a faculty/staff member, two senior students, and a student organization for their commitment to improving climate and cultural awareness on campus as it relates to race, gender, class, sexual orientation, political diversity, religion, ability, and other historically marginalized groups.

Individuals being honored this year will be E.L.L. Specialist Andrew Grace ’04 and senior students Imra Márquez Trapero and Elizabeth A. Coco. OLAS (Organization of Latin American and Spanish Cultures) will be honored for its event Brazilian Carnival.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Awards will be given out throughout the night and a dance will begin at 10 p.m. Tickets are required for the Diversity Awards Banquet and can be purchased for $10 at the Diversity Week table outside the Evelyn Young Dining Room or in the Diversity Center.
