Star Tribune Books Editor Laurie Hertzel spoke to an audience of approximately 100 people at the Edina County Club on Tuesday, Oct. 18 as part of Gustavus Library Associates’ Fall Author Day.

Hertzel spoke about her unorthodox journey in the field of journalism, which included a variety of positions during a 20-year stint at the Duluth News-Tribune, a short stint with Minnesota Monthly magazine, and finally to her current position at the Star Tribune, the largest newspaper in the state of Minnesota.

She read several colorful stories from her new, award-winning memoir News to Me: Adventures of an Accidental Journalist. A brilliant storyteller, Hertzel eloquently described life in a 1970s small-city newsroom that was dominated by men from the point of view of a rookie female journalist.

Copies of News to Me are available for purchase in the Gustavus Book Mark.
