As the nation prepares to observe the 10-year anniversary of the tragedies that occurred on September 11, 2001, two sections of bent steel beams from one of the collapsed World Trade Center towers will be on display outside of Christ Chapel at Gustavus Adolphus College during daytime hours between Thursday, Sept. 8 and Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Greg Mueller, the College’s Sesquicentennial Sculptor, applied to receive the pieces of steel from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey after a call went out two years ago to artists, non-profits, and government agencies who were interested in displaying the artifacts as memorials. Mueller plans to use the steel beams in his sculptural work at some point in the future.

The Rev. Rod Anderson, Interim Senior Chaplain at Gustavus, said that all members of the Gustavus community and the greater St. Peter community are welcome to come to campus to “stop, touch, remember, and pray one decade after the terror and tragedy of 9/11.”

The public is also welcome to worship at Christ Chapel on Sunday, Sept. 11 when Rev. Anderson’s sermon will be titled “The Forgiveness Reunion.”
