For the second straight year, Gustavus Adolphus College has been recognized for its commitment to sustainability by The Princeton Review. The nationally-known education services company selected Gustavus for inclusion in its second annual “Guide to 311 Green Colleges: 2011 Edition.”
In partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council, The Princeton Review surveyed 703 schools and gave them all a “Green Rating” score. The 311 schools included in the guide represent the schools that received scores in the 80th percentile or higher.
Factors contributing to the College’s inclusion in the guide included the existence of the Linnaeus Arboretum and the Johnson Center for Environmental Innovation; efforts by the Kitchen Cabinet committee to reduce cafeteria waste and to purchase more locally grown and organic food; student involvement and participation in the Campus Energy Wars challenge; and strong programs in Environmental Studies and Biology.
