Gustavus Hosting Minnesota Football Coaches Association All-Star Training Camp

Gustavus Adolphus College is excited to be hosting 86 of the top high school football players in Minnesota for a week of training camp in preparation for the 37th annual High School All-Star Football Game sponsored by the Minnesota Football Coaches Association (MFCA).

Gustavus Adolphus College is excited to be hosting 86 of the top high school football players in Minnesota for a week of training camp in preparation for the 37th annual High School All-Star Football Game sponsored by the Minnesota Football Coaches Association (MFCA).  The players reported on Sunday and will practice through Friday. The week will conclude with the annual Metro versus Outstate All-Star game played at Huskie Stadium on the campus of St. Cloud State University on Saturday, June 26 at 7:00 p.m.

The Metro All-Stars Head Coach is Gustavus alumnus Jeff Weiland of Orono, assisted by Bob Kovich of Lakeville North, Ron Monson of Minnehaha Academy, Todd Niklaus of St. Anthony Village, Tony Patterson of Minneapolis North and Rick Sutton of Eagan.

The Outstate All-Stars Head Coach is Jon Vik of Rochester Century, assisted by Jeff Briard of Springfield, Mike Dammann of MACCRAY, Chad Gimbel of Blooming Prairie, Frank Huie of Duluth Denfeld and Tom Murphy of Nicollet.

Four of the top ten rated recruits in the state of Minnesota (according to Rivals.com) are on this year’s Metro roster. These recruits include Eastview offensive lineman Sean Marben who will attend Navy next fall, Mark Alt, a quarterback from Cretin-Derham Hall, who will play hockey at the University of Minnesota, and linebacker Grant Olson from Wayzata and offensive lineman Billy Turner from Mounds View, who who have both committed to play at North Dakota State University.

Two future Gusties are among the 86 players in camp and they are defensive end Donte Green from Minneapolis North and cornerback Jeff Dubose from St. Croix Lutheran.

This is the 12th consecutive year that Gustavus has hosted players and coaches for the MFCA All-Star Game training camp. The All-Star Football Game will showcase outstanding senior players from the 2009 high school football season. Players and coaches representing 76 schools and 32 conferences will participate in this year’s game. They were selected by members of the Minnesota Football Coaches Association.
