Entrepreneur, writer, and historian Bill Hakala will be at Gustavus Adolphus College on Tuesday, April 27 to give a talk titled “The Evolution of ‘Now’: Real World Storytelling about Today’s Institutions.” Hakala will speak at 4:30 p.m. in Linner Lounge, located in the O.J. Johnson Student Union.
Hakala’s company, Hakala Communications, Inc., produced institutional histories for clients in health care, manufacturing, agriculture, higher education, insurance, and financial services for 25 years. The company also produced magazines, newsletters, and marketing publications for several corporations, and worked closely with the Swedish Council of America in producing the council’s first promotional materials in the early 1980s.
Before starting his company in 1981, Hakala served as executive director of the American Swedish Institute and as publications manager and special projects writer for Lutheran Brotherhood (Thrivent Financial). In 1976, Hakala edited Swedish Minnesota: a Bicentennial Salute. In addition, Bill is the author of A Way of Living: the Simple Life and Extraordinary Craft of Landscape Painter Don Koestner.
