Gustavus Adolphus College recognized four newly tenured faculty members during its 10 a.m. daily worship service in Christ Chapel on Friday, April 16.
The faculty members who were recognized are Brenda Kelly (Biology and Chemistry), Michele Koomen (Education), Karl Larson (Health and Exercise Science), and San Skulrattanakulchai (Mathematics and Computer Science).
Kelly has taught at Gustavus since 2002 and holds a B.S. from Creighton University and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington. Her special interests include biological and organic chemistry, inorganic and biophysical chemistry, and enzyme structure and function.
Koomen has taught at Gustavus since 2000 and holds a B.A. from California State University, Northridge, an M.Ed. from Fresno Pacific University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. Her special interests include science and mathematics education.
Larson has taught at Gustavus since 2005 and holds a B.S. from Minnesota State University, Mankato and an M.S. and Ph.d. from Southern Illinois University. His special interests include health education, wellness, and violence prevention.
Skulrattanakulchai has taught at Gustavus since 2003 and holds a B.S. and M.D. from Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand. He also holds an M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of Colorado. His special interests include graph algorithms, combinatorial optimization, and discrete algorithms.
