Research Project Takes Students and Professor to France

Gustavus students spend a lot of time conducting research in the laboratories of the Nobel Hall of Science, but many students also have a chance to conduct research away from campus. In the case of Amy Christiansen '15 and Alexa Peterson '16, that opportunity involved a trip to France with Associate Professor of Chemistry Amanda Nienow.

Emily Seelen ’13 Receives NSF Graduate Research Fellowship

Becoming a respected scientist can be a challenging process, but it’s a process that Emily Seelen ’13 seems to be excelling at. After gaining valuable experience in the research labs at Gustavus, Seelen is now pursuing a PhD in oceanography at the University of Connecticut, and was recently awarded a prestigious graduate research fellowship from the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Author Kelsey Timmerman to Speak at Gustavus Sept. 10

Gustavus Adolphus College will welcome author and journalist Kelsey Timmerman to campus on Wednesday, Sept. 10 for a free public lecture. Timmerman is the author of the College’s two Reading in Common books for the 2014-15 academic year, Where Am I Wearing and Where Am I Eating.

Gusties To Shine at Minnesota Fringe Festival

With more than 165 shows performing five times each on 19 stages across the Twin Cities area, the 2014 Minnesota Fringe Festival, one of the largest in the nation, looks to be even bigger than last year’s record festival. Through it all, Gustavus theatre and dance and music alumni, along with current students and faculty will play a major role in the 12-day festival.

The Mankato Free Press and education reporter Amanda Dyslin recently featured President Rebecca Bergman with a front page story in the paper's Tuesday, July 8 print edition. President Bergman became Gustavus Adolphus College's 17th president and first female president when she officially began her tenure on July 1, 2014.

Alumnus and Trustee Rev. John Hogenson ’81 Named Senior Pastor at Mount Olivet

Gustavus Adolphus College alumnus and current member of the College’s Board of Trustees, Rev. John Hogenson ’81, has been named the new Senior Pastor at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Hogenson will begin his new duties on August 1, 2014.

Rebecca M. Bergman Begins Tenure as 17th President of Gustavus

On Tuesday, July 1, Rebecca M. Bergman officially began her duties as the 17th President of Gustavus Adolphus College. The College's Board of Trustees announced in late February that Bergman would replace Jack Ohle, who retired after serving as President since July 2008. Bergman is the first woman in the 152-year history of the College to be named president.

Chad Winterfeldt Named New Cantor at Gustavus

Dr. Chad Winterfeldt, who has served as an organist and adjunct instructor in the Music Department at Gustavus Adolphus College since 2004, has been named the College’s new Cantor. Dr. Winterfeldt will begin his new duties on August 1, 2014.

Gustavus’ West Mall Named Annexstad Family Mall

The Board of Trustees of Gustavus Adolphus College has announced that the recently developed West Mall will now be known as the Annexstad Family Mall in recognition of Al and Cathy Annexstad for their years of support of the College through the Annexstad Family Foundation Scholarship Program.
