Christmas in Christ Chapel is Dec. 6-8

Christmas in Christ Chapel, the annual celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Gustavus Adolphus College will be held Dec. 6-8 and is themed “Holy Wisdom, Holy Word: the Gates of Eden Are Open.” Through these worship services, the College will continue its tradition of helping people prepare themselves for Christmas by telling the story of Jesus’s birth through innovative, beautiful, and spiritually moving musical and spoken word presentations.

73rd Annual Festival of St. Lucia is Dec. 12

Gustavus Adolphus College will celebrate its 73rd annual Festival of St. Lucia at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12 in Christ Chapel. This year’s Lucia court consists of sophomores Emily Albrecht of Wimbledon, N.D., Haley Coller of Bloomington, Minn., Casey Lindquist of Chanhassen, Minn., Hayley Nemmers of Des Moines, Iowa, Christina Swenson of Marion, Iowa, and Mikaela Warner of Roseville, Minn.

Rasmussen Featured by St. Paul Pioneer Press

Gustavus Adolphus College alumnus and current Visiting Professor of English Matt Rasmussen was recently featured by the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Rasmussen is a finalist for this year's National Book Award in poetry for his debut collection of poems titled Black Aperture.

Public Discourse Receives National Award

Public Discourse, an introductory course in Communication Studies, has been recognized by the National Communication Association (NCA) as the recipient of its annual Program of Distinction Award. Gustavus first implemented Public Discourse into the Communication Studies curriculum in 2007. The new program was designed to emphasize argument, advocacy, speaking, and writing and to give students the opportunity to participate in immersive civic engagement.

Hillstrom Museum of Art Presents Bruce McClain: A Retrospective Exhibition

The Hillstrom Museum of Art at Gustavus Adolphus College will present Bruce McClain: A Retrospective Exhibition, from Nov. 25, 2013 through Jan. 31, 2014. There will be an opening reception Monday, Nov. 25 from 7 to 9 p.m., with a gallery talk by the artist starting at 7:30 p.m.

Gustavus Announces Plans to Renovate Folke Bernadotte Memorial Library

Gustavus Adolphus College President Jack Ohle has announced that the College is developing plans to renovate the Folke Bernadotte Memorial Library. President Ohle made the announcement on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the College’s 18th biennial library fundraiser, A Royal Affair.

Men’s Soccer Team to Host NCAA Tournament Matches This Weekend

The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s soccer team has earned an at-large bid into the 2013 NCAA Division III Tournament. Gustavus will face the College of St. Scholastica (17-2-3) in the opening round on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 11:00 a.m. on the Gustie Soccer Field.

Lowe Documentary Painting the Place Between to Premiere at Fitzgerald

Painting the Place Between, a new documentary film produced by Gustavus art professor Kristen Lowe, will premiere at St. Paul’s Fitzgerald Theatre on Friday, December 6 at 7:30 p.m. A reception at 6:45 p.m. will allow members of the audience to meet the four artists featured in the documentary and to view their work prior to the premiere.

Give to Gustavus Day Exceeds Goal, Raising $65,446 for the Gustavus Annual Fund

The College is proud to announce that thanks to the generosity and dedication of many alumni, parents, and friends, Give to Gustavus Day raised a total of $65,446 for the Gustavus Annual Fund. The online giving campaign was held Wednesday, Nov. 13, with a goal of raising $24,000 in 24 hours.
