Professor of English, Dr. Eric Eliason, has been named dean of the college and vice president for Academic Affairs at Concordia College in Moorhead. Eliason joined the Gustavus faculty in 1989 and went on to serve in two different leadership positions in the Provost’s Office. He served as interim dean of the faculty from 2005 to 2007, and then as academic dean from 2007 to 2009.

Eliason has been honored several times for his teaching at Gustavus. He was the 2000 recipient of the Edgar M. Carlson Award for Distinguished Teaching – the highest honor granted to a member of the Gustavus faculty. Eliason also received the 2010 Faculty Service Award, given annually to a faculty member whose service has improved the College. Most recently, Eliason received the 2012 Swenson-Bunn Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence, which is nominated by students and selected by a vote of the Student Senate.

He will begin his new duties on Aug. 1.
