The Gustavus Adolphus football team kicked off its 2012 season with a 35-26 win over Simpson College on Saturday afternoon at Bill Buxton Stadium. Gustavus was able to capitalize on Simpson’s mistakes throughout the day, scoring two defensive touchdowns and forcing a total of five turnovers.

The Gustavus football team will open the 2012 regular season with a non-conference road test against Simpson College at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 in Indianola, Iowa.

The second annual Celebrate St. Peter Day at Gustavus Adolphus College will take place Saturday, Sept. 15, as numerous fun, family-friendly, and free activities are scheduled to honor and thank the community that has served as a wonderful home for the College since 1876.

The Coneflower Prairie, a 70-acre restoration project on the west side of the Linnaeus Arboretum at Gustavus Adolphus College, will be officially dedicated during a ceremony beginning at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15.

Learn more about Kathleen Moore, Distinguished Professor of Philosophy and founding director of the Spring Creek Project for Ideas, Nature, and the Written Word at Oregon State University in Corvallis. Moore will speak at this year’s Nobel Conference at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3.

Wes Moore, author of Gustavus Adolphus College’s Reading in Common selection for 2012, The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates, will speak publicly at the College at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 in Christ Chapel. Moore will also sign books after his speaking appearance.

Gustavus senior swimmer Anna Eames captured a silver medal in London at the Paralympic Games on Monday, Sept. 3, in the 4×100 meter freestyle relay event. It’s Eames’ third Paralympic medal of her career as she adds this silver medal to gold and bronze medals that she won at the 2008 games in Beijing.

Gustavus Adolphus College will begin its 151st academic year on Tuesday, Sept. 4, when classes commence for the College’s 2,500 full-time students. President Jack R. Ohle will welcome all students and staff back to campus at the College’s Opening Convocation at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in Christ Chapel.
