The Nobel Conference draws thousands of visitors to campus each year and is a great chance for those in attendance to hear about groundbreaking research from distinguished scholars, but behind the scenes select Gustavus students are given a unique opportunity.

Gustavus to Dedicate the Sesquicentennial Plaza

When Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden visit Gustavus Adolphus College on Friday, Oct. 5, the College will dedicate the newly constructed Sesquicentennial Plaza. The Plaza is a design element of the new West Mall, which connects Christ Chapel to the Linnaeus Arboretum.

Dr. David Gallo Speaks to Minnesota High School Students

Dr. David Gallo will give the opening lecture at the 48th annual Nobel Conference on Tuesday, Oct. 2 in front of an audience of nearly 5,000 people, but on Monday, Oct. 1, Dr. Gallo was busy speaking to smaller groups of high school students in Minneapolis and St. Peter.

Nobel Conference Concert is Tuesday Evening

“Come Colorful See,” the Nobel Conference 48 Concert, will be presented at 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2 in Christ Chapel. The concert will feature the work of pianist Yumiko Oshima-Ryan, images by Dave Ryan, the poetry of Joyce Sutphen, and dance choreographed by Melissa Rolnick and dancer Jane Chung ’13.

The city of Appleton, Wisconsin, has developed a unique program that utilizes the Nobel Conference in an attempt to help educate a community. This year, more than 80 individuals from multiple generations will attend the 48th annual Nobel Conference, "Our Global Ocean."

Mikka McCracken ’09: Working to End Poverty and World Hunger

Mikka McCracken '09 came to Gustavus in the fall of 2005 with thoughts of following a pre-medical educational track. She ended up earning her degree in political science and peace studies and today is making her life count by working as a program director at ELCA World Hunger.

James McPherson ’58 Publishes New Book on Civil War Navies

James McPherson ’58, Civil War historian, Pulitzer Prize-winning author, and Gustavus alumnus, has published his latest book, War on the Waters, through the University of North Carolina Press.
